  • Grasmere Car Accident Involves Truck
    Mar 09, 2010

    A Grasmere car accident involving a Coors Light truck leaves a left-hand turn lane blocked. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon, March 4, 2010, on Hylan Boulevard at Old Town Road.

    According to a witness, the Coors Light truck and sedan were both heading towards St. George on Hylan Boulevard and smashed into one another in the left-turn lane at Old Town Road. The force of the impact caused the front passenger wheel of the Coors Light truck to become embedded in the left-side fender of the sedan.

    “You could see the spokes from the truck’s hubcap smashed in the car,” the unidentified witness reported.

    It was unclear as to how many people were involved in the accident and whether any of them sustained injuries in the wreck. Their identities have not been released.

    Commuters wanting to turn left onto Old Town Road were required to navigate around the vehicles since the vehicles were blocking the lane.

    The Grasmere car accident is still under investigation by local authorities. It was unclear as to who was at fault and what caused the accident.

  • Elizabeth Auto Accident Leaves Several Injured

    An Elizabeth auto accident involving a New Jersey Transit bus leaves several people injured when the bus collides with two other vehicles on the New Jersey Turnpike. The incident took place at approximately 4:45 PM on Friday afternoon, February 19, 2010.

    According to Turnpike Authority spokesperson Joseph Orlando, the three vehicle accident occurred in the outer southbound lanes near Exit 13A. The three vehicles included a New Jersey Transit bus, a truck and a car. Details concerning the accident were not made available.

    The force of the impact caused the windshield of the bus to explode inflicting moderate injuries to the bus driver. Several other passengers on the bus were reported as suffering injuries; however, none of them appeared to be life-threatening. Details concerning other injuries were not made available.

    Rescue crews were required to remove passengers through windows since the doors were not operational due to the damage the bus sustained in the accident.

    The three-vehicle Elizabeth bus accident is still under investigation by local authorities. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

  • Roxbury Car Accident Leads to an Arrest
    Feb 22, 2010

    A Roxbury car accident involving three vehicles and a fleeing car ends with a man facing multiple charges. The incident began just before 3:00 PM on Friday afternoon, February 12, 2010, in Denville.

    According to Roxbury Detective Sam Zarro, the incident began when Denville police made an attempt to pull over a GMC Envoy. The GMC fled police and was traveling west on Route 10 when the driver exited the highway onto the Commerce Boulevard jugandle. The driver has been identified as Manuel Mosquera, 36, of Union.

    Roxbury authorities then called the Denville police to request assistance in apprehending the fleeing man. However, during the chase, Mosquera made an attempt to squeeze his vehicle between two other vehicles causing damage to all three vehicles. He then drove across the road, over a curb and became stuck when he struck a tree. That is when police were able to arrest Mosquera.

    It was unclear as to the extent of injuries sustained by Mosquera or any of the other drivers and passengers involved in the wreck.

    When police searched the GMC, they found a syringe, drugs and alcohol in the vehicle. Mosquera admitted to police that he had been drinking and taking cocaine before the accident. He faces many charges including driving under the influence, eluding police, possessing drugs in a motor vehicle, to name a few.

  • Freehold Car Accident Leaves 3 Dead
    Feb 20, 2010

    A Freehold car accident involving two vehicles leaves a male driver and two female passengers dead with the sole survivor facing vehicular homicide charges. The incident took place on Monday, January 25, 2010, in the New Jersey city.

    According to witnesses, Chad Horne, 22, of Freehold, was traveling on Easton Avenue with two female passengers when they were struck by another car. Horne and his two passengers, Terri Buskirk, 43, of Bethlehem Township, and Robin Villegas, 52, of Staten Island, New York, were pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident.

    The driver of the second car that hit Horne has been identified as Anthony Russell Bruno, 25, of Bethlehem Township. Witnesses told police that Bruno’s vehicle was driving at speeds in excessive of the posted 40 mph speed limit and he was seen running several red lights. Bruno also allegedly passed several cars just before he struck Horne’s car.

    According to police, Bruno had a blood-alcohol content of 0.23. This amount is almost three times the legal limit.

    “The death of these three individuals is a serious tragedy for our community,” Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said.

    The Freehold car accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Bruno has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol.

  • Long Island Auto Accident Involves Fuel-Truck
    Feb 10, 2010

    A Long Island auto accident kills a man after a car and fuel-track crash along the Long Island Expressway. The incident took place on Saturday morning, January 23, 2010, near the Suffolk-Nassau County line.

    According to reports, Marie Medina, 30, of Bayonne, was heading to her parents house in Farmingville when the incident occurred. Her 2001 Dodge Neon was stranded in the center lane due to mechanical problems.

    A fuel-truck struck her car while attempting to avoid her. The tanker flipped over and exploded into flames.

    The driver of the truck has been identified as Mujahid Shah, 57, of Brooklyn. Shah had just picked up approximately 1,500 gallons of fuel before the crash. According to police, the driver died instantly in the fiery explosion.

    Rescue crews transported Medina to Nassau University Medical Center where she was treated for minor injuries.

    “All I know, I saw the truck coming at a speed,” Medina said. “I thought, ‘Oh, my gosh, this truck doesn’t see me.’ I said, ‘God, protect me.’”

    The Long Island auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Medina reportedly had her emergency lights on at the time the vehicles collided.

  • Bethlehem Township Car Accident Kills 3

    A Bethlehem Township car accident involving two vehicles leave three people dead after a pickup truck and car collide. The incident took place just after midnight on Thursday morning, January 28, 2010, at Easton Avenue at Willow Park Road.

    Though police have not released details concerning the accident, a couple, Drew and Michelle Sack, who live near where the accident took place indicated that neither of the drivers seemed to have time to stop before the collision took place.

    The three victims in the car have been identified as Chad Horne, 22, of Freehold, N.J; Robin Villegas, 52, of Staten Island, N.Y.; and Terri Buskirk, 43, of Bethlehem Township. Reports indicate that Villegas was in the front passenger seat, while, Buskirk was in the right rear seat when the collision occurred. They all died from injuries sustained in the accident.

    Rescue crews transported the driver of the pickup truck to St. Luke’s Hospital-Fountain Hill. Police have not released his identity.

    “Both roads are narrow, and there are low stone walls that block driver’s view,” Sack said.

  • Staten Island Auto Accident Kills One and Injures Two Others

    A Staten Island auto accident claims the life of one man and leaves two others injured when the car they were traveling in skids off the road and slams into a tree. The incident took place at approximately 6:30 AM on Sunday morning, January 17, 2010, at the intersection of South Avenue and Teleport Drive.

    According to police, a white Cadillac Catera driven by a 24-year-old driver lost control and skidded off the road and slammed into a tree. Derek Moore, 22, of Staten Island, was a passenger in the backseat of the Cadillac.

    Rescue crews transported Moore to Staten Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident.

    The driver and a third 27-year-old passenger were also injured in the wreck. However, police indicated that both victims were expected to survive.

    The Staten Island accident is still under investigation by local authorities. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, however, police have indicated that charges are not expected to be filed against the driver.

    In an unrelated Brooklyn auto accident that occurred approximately three hours earlier, a minivan full of clubgoers, crashed into a telephone pole.  The driver of the Honda Odyssey was pronounced dead at Brookdale University Hospital.  Five others in the van suffered injuries. - 7 - 10

  • Mahwah Car Accident Injures Two
    Jan 24, 2010

    A Mahwah car accident in northern New Jersey leaves a brother and sister injured after the car they were riding in loses control and slams into a tree. The incident took place on Thursday morning, January 14, 2010, as the pair were heading to a nearby high school.

    According to police, Victoria Herndon, 18, of Mahwah, and her 17-year-old brother, were on their way to Mahwah High School when their vehicle lost control and skidded on an icy road and into a tree. The force of the impact split the car in half.

    Police report that Victoria was found trapped in the car when rescue workers arrived on the scene and had to remove her from the vehicle. Crews found the unidentified brother outside of the vehicle. It was not determined whether he was ejected from the car or if he was able to escape on his own.

    Rescue crews transported the two siblings to a nearby hospital where they were treated for injuries sustained in the accident. Their injuries have been described as non-life threatening by officials.

    The Mahwah car accident involving the two siblings is still under investigation by local authorities. The cause of the accident has not been determined.

  • Jogger Dies in Annadale Car Accident

    An Annadale car accident involving two joggers and a model results in the death of a man. The incident took place on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, on Staten Island.

    According to officials, model Gypsy Porfirio, 34, of Brooklyn, struck two joggers who were running down Hyland Boulevard near Lipsett Avenue. Porfirio was allegedly driving while high on prescription pills.

    Rescue crews rushed Daniel Kelley, 23, of Annadale, to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, and where he was treated for severe head and chest wounds sustained in the accident. Kelley died the following Saturday.

    The second jogger, Gina Siclari, 18, of Eltingville, was also taken to Staten Island University Hospital. Siclari was treated for a broken ankle, broken femur, multiple lacerations and a variety of scrapes and bruises. She has been listed in stable condition.

    According to police, Porfirio admitted that she had consumed three different types of prescription pills within one hour of hitting the two joggers. She indicated that she had “blacked out” at the time of the accident.

    Police also reported that they had recovered approximately 60 prescription pills from Porfirio that included Ocycodone and Alprazolam. The pills were recovered from her boots as well as the waistband portion of her pants.

  • Staten Island Accident Claims Like of 18-Month-Old Girl

    A Staten Island car accident involving three vehicles claims the life of an 18-month-old girl. The incident took place in Graniteville on Monday, January 4, 2010 on the Martin Luther King Expressway.

    The victim, Gina Marie Fantauzzi, 18-months-old, of Staten Island, was transported by rescue workers to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton following the three-vehicle car accident on Monday. Hospital officials later pronounced her dead from injuries sustained in the accident that occurred along the Martin Luther King Expressway in Graniteville.

    Fantauzzi was riding in her mother’s car when the incident occurred. There was no other information available as to whether anyone else involved in the wreck suffered injuries.

    The family will bury Fantauzzi’s body near the duck pond at Resurrection Cemetery in Pleasant Plains. Family members described her as a little girl that lit up when ducks were found on her back porch. They said that she always wanted to play with the birds.

    “She was such a sweet little girl, she just smiled at everything,” her grandfather, Steven Hayden, said. “She was so full of life. It was unbelievable.”

    The fatal three-vehicle accident is still under investigation by local police and the district attorney’s office. No other details concerning the accident were available. - 10 - 10
